The village of Sonde is about 30 minutes drive from Bweyogerere. When we first visited in 2001 it was small but has since expanded quite a bit. There are more shops appearing and a large Christian School (funded by another group) has been built alongside the church. This has encouraged many of the students and teachers to attend the church at Sonde.
Pastor John and his wife Christine live in a small house opposite the church and they have four children. Pastor John is a carpenter by trade, and a quiet, shy man who cares deeply about the local people. Christine has a wonderful strong singing voice and leads the worship choir in the church.
The original church was constructed of wooden supports interwoven with papyrus and plastic sheeting. The new brick building is the largest of the ones funded by Community Church Sheppey.

From the end of the earth to the ends of the earth...
Community Church Sheppey is a Pentecostal church on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, and is working through the Christian organisation Connections in partnership with a church in Bweyogerere in the suburbs of Kampala. This church oversees a number of small village churches scattered around Uganda, and through it CCS has donated money and built friendships with many churches in this network, as well as another church outside this network (led by Pastor James Akolo, who was studying in the UK in 2005 and met CCS at a Christian conference).
This relationship was established when a member of CCS visited Uganda in 2001 and brought back reports of poverty and church activity in some of these places. Since this time money has been donated to build brick church buildings for four churches, support Pastors, pay for building work and equipment for schools as well as sponsorship of teachers and orphans at two of these schools. A close relationship has been established between the leaders of CCS, Connections and the Ugandan churches and the members of the churches are also involved in correspondence and annual visits to Uganda.
This Blogspot is intended to provide information and updated stories about the churches we support in Uganda and our own church, and enable you to get to know the individuals and communities you have supported. A partnership that is just about giving money doesn't really acheive anything in the long run. What is incredible about this partnership is that the friendships that have built up through regular visits and contact mean that we are both having an impact on eachother. Encouraging eachother in our faith and sharing the sense of God's purpose for our lives, we are working together for the good of our communities.
